Who wrote that law? I hope all of my legacy programs will work in Vista but
I know some will not. When I discover a program that does not, I will not
cry in your beer. I will search for a patch or latter version that does. If
need be I will find another program that does the job.

I disagree. George Ou wrote an insightful blog on this very issue and
he details a really interesting practice by Intuit. Apparently,
QuickBooks through 2006 (and its modules/extensions) uses programming
routines that are explicitly unsupported in Windows XP. Some kind of
routine that uses the system registry NOT for UI or behavioral setting,
but as a sort or transaction log or "messenger service" between
QuickBooks modules.

Ever wonder why you need to be logged in as an administrator just to
run QuickBooks? Well that's why. Because you need to allow QB to
perform unscrupulous functions on your registry, or else no joy.

Check out his writeup, I think you'll appreciate what he has to say.

To tell you the truth I don't give a damn. All that is important to me and
my clients is that QB gets the job done. How QB uses the system registry is
not important.

Perhaps if I was a geek instead of a CPA I would lose sleep over ths but
tonight I will sleep like a baby knowing that all that financial data is in
the good hands of Intuit.

I look to Mr. Mike Block for inspiration not this George Ou.

Gee, thanks Allan. Anyways my intent was to share a possible response
to Chuck's concern about "WHY it might not work." Hopefully it helps
somebody in that regard; if not then so be it.

Yes indeed I understood your good intentions. I did not wish to offend you.
Lets just say I am gearing up for the unslaught of users crying in my beer
about how their old versions of QB do not work in Vista.

To these users, read my lips.

Don't upgrade to Visa or purchase your next PC with XP installed instead of
Visa. Do not dilute my Bud.
