I am hoping someone in here can help me with a problem. On Saturday I
made a backup of our quickbooks pro 2003 on an XP system. Later that
day someone else came along restored a 3 day old backup did a little
work then made another backup. Making the system 3 days out of date
and overwritting 3 days of information. I just found out about this
over the phone and have not yet been back into work to see what I can
do exactly. I think the first backup got overwritten with the second
backup made on the same day. Since the backup was made the same day I
think it had the same name and was overwritten. These backups where
made to a USB jumpdrive. If I am unable to find the first backup from
Saturday afternoon will that backup be stored anywhere within QB ? I
was also thinking about doing a system restore within XP. Any
suggestions?

A system restore within XP does not affect data files. Forget that.

I know this doesn't help now, but we have always partitioned our hard
drive and all our data files get saved to "D" drive. This way if
anything ever happens and we have to format, our data backups are safe.
I always make two backups. One backup stays in the default QB's
backup folder and the other one is saved to a backup folder on "D"
drive.

As to your problem I think you will have to go back to the latest
reliable backup and recreate your data from that date forward.

You should probably also have a third backup off-site. I email a
"portable" file to myself at home when I backup.
