I started out with Quicken, then updated to QB PRO 99. That ran fine for
years. I was backing up files every month on 3" disc. Recently my computer
crashed and I lost everything. Bought a new computer and loaded PRO 99. I
opened a 'new company" and tried to "restore" the data files. I keep getting
an error that says : Data from a newer version, cannot use" What gives?
Thanks

Just out of curiosity, did you try to Google for a response? This topic has
been covered a more than a couple of times in the past.

What gives is that QuickBooks will download updates and install them. Which
sometime can modify program files and the data file. When you reinstall you
are starting with a fresh copy without any of the updates, hence the "Data
is from a newer version: message"

Your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to locate and download the
updates for QB99 (a version that has stopped being supported for some time).
Good luck

Gary

I'll assume you're using the U.S. version.
You need to update your QB Pro 99 installation to
the latest patch, which is r4. You can get it from the
following FTP location.

ftp://ftp.quicken.com/pub/quickbooks/99/r4/qbcdpro.exe
