With QB2006 Pro, is there a way to get a individual totals of sales that
were taxed; sales that were not taxed to churches, gov't etc; and sales
out of state? I know QB sales receipts figures the taxes but I can't
find a way to retrieve totals by tax category so I'm having to jot
figures down on paper as I make sales.

When creating an invoice, each line item allows for a tax category you
create such as "taxable", "resale", "service", "exempt", based on the
categories of your sales tax return.

The location of the sale is selected at the bottom of the invoice from
categories you create such as "State", "State/County/City", "State/City",
"Out of State". When creating these categories, I create each taxing entity
separately and then choose from among them to create groups. Each category
is set up with the sales tax rate for that individual category only. Groups
add the rates together for you.

When printing the Vendor/Sales Tax Liability Report, it will be nicely
separated by taxing entity in rows and by taxable and non-taxable in
columns. Drill into the non-taxable numbers for the detailed report of
categories making up the non-taxable sales.

If you set this up correctly it is great.

OK, Thank you. Fortunately, it involves only 4 sales in 90 days, so I'll
stick to my pencil and paper until I have time to study this in depth
and determine how to go about defining tax categories in QB. The help
files don't offer a lot of help so it'll be a case of trial and error
and a day or two of spare time.
