What is the best method to transfer QBP2004 to a new computer? Reinstall
original QBP2004 CD? Will revisions be automatically updated again? What
is the best software to transfer this over if I don't reinstall with
original CD and serial number? Will this work on Vista from XP? Haven't
upgraded to Vista yet on new computer yet.

The best way to transfer QB to a new computer would be by using the original
CD and serial number. A ghost/clone of your old computer would also work but
that transfers the entire original computer to the new one including any
problems that existed on the old computer. Probably not recommended.

On your old computer, check for QB updates one last time. Select Ctrl-1 and
make a note of the Version/Release # of your program. Then make a backup of
your company file and copy it to your new computer via a flash drive or
other removable media.

You will need the original Install Key code and serial number provided when
you purchased the software. You also need the registration number provided
by Intuit when you registered the program. To get this info select
Help>>About Quickbooks. The program will display your necessary codes.

On your new computer, install QB from the original CD. Pull up a sample
company file and register the program. Now check for updates to bring the
program to the same version/release# as your old computer.

Lastly, restore the back up file made on the old computer by selecting
File>>Restore. Make sure you specify that you specify a new file name in the
"restore company backup to:" section of the restore screen. You don't want
to over ride the sample company file. Then click on Restore to start the
process.

QB 2004 will not work with Vista. Only 2007 was designed with Vista in mind.
You will find this true of many software packages.
