Trouble installing Quickbooks.... Randy Fiore 11-25-2008

I have a licensed copy of Quickbooks 2005 (for Win98SE, 2000 & XP) that I am
trying to install. When I attempt to, I get this message:

"Quick books will install the following required components to your
computer. Flash 7. Click 'next' to continue."

When I do click 'next', I get the thermometer "Installing Flash
7".....(Which is funny, because I always thought I had some kind of Flash
installed already.)

Then I get "Error Installing Flash 7". "Cannot install "Flash Player7" from
'E:ThirdPartyFlash7install_flash_player_7.msi'. Please go to
http://wwww.macromedia.com/software/flashplayer to download and install
'Flash Player 7', and then run the QuickBooks installation program again.
[Error:1603]"

When I go to that site, Flash Player 7 is not available, but Flash Player 10
is. Even when I install this, I get the same error messages from above.

Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?

Thanks for your help!

It ain't you, it's Intuit's installer isn't smart enough to recognize a
later version (pretty typical kind of Intuit sorry coding practices).

Not using anything that requires Flash (including later versions of QB),
only suggestion I would have would be to try to uninstall all remnants
of Flash you can and see if then can do the "clean" install from the QB CD.

I think you need to uninstall your quickbooks and also the flash. then
restart your PC. Make a new installation of your FLASH then install
quickbooks.
Im also wondering why flash will an issue. what is your QB version?

Thank you....that did it.

I guess Intuit never imagined that anyone would develop a later version of
Flash?

I thought it might but wasn't sure--glad to hear it did.

On the latter, my opinion is "yeah, pretty much". It's essentially a
problem of only testing under current conditions and not thinking ahead
so that, for example, a test is coded as "version equals X" instead of
"version greater than or equal X". The former ends up w/ compatibility
problems when another vendor other than Intuit makes and upgrade as you
experienced.
