Perhaps someone can help me.

What happens when going into the bank register to unclear and change a
reconciled cheque from a previous year?

It will change the opening balance for your next bank reconciliation. Just
ignore the discrepency and enter the current month's ending balance to allow
QB to clear that transaction.

It can/will also make all the year end reports wrong. If you haven't closed the
year yet, not an issue.
