I'm trying to get support for QuickBooksPro2007 - and the tech person
needs to get remote access and told me to go to www.ra.intuit.com.
But, I keep getting error message that the website is not available.
He tried to help me without the remote access with no success; and
told me that I need to get my "tech person" to fix that problem before
they can fix my original problem. Since I'm self-employed and don't
have a "tech person", can anyone shed a light on this problem? Thanks
in advance.

A tech person is an individual who is knowledgeable in matters concerning
computers and usually makes a living from such endevors.

Call again.

This time, insist on going higher up the 'food chain' of service reps... try
to find one without a script.

For remote access to your computer, there are any number of applications. I
suspect the website the Intuit tech is trying to use the remote access
service offered by Intuit, for a fee, for accessing QuickBooks data
remotely.

http://quickbooks.intuit.com/product/add_ons/remote_access.jhtml?view=overview_how
"Getting started with Remote Access couldn't be easier. QuickBooks Premier
automatically installs the Remote Access application on your office PC. Once
you sign up for service, make a one-time visit to the Remote Access
registration site to set up a user I.D. and password. That's all there is to
it! Your office PC needs to be turned on and connected to the Internet. But
you don't have to have the QuickBooks application open."

Why in the heck *you* would have to pay is beyond me. Note that a "Remote
Access Platinum" is available allowing "Remote Access Support Sessions
(requiring client approval to initiate) for an unlimited number of clients."
Translated: the Intuit tech can send you an email and have you log in to the
website to authorize access..... all you need is a email and password that
THE TECH establishes WITH YOU.

This is all presuming you are using Internet Explorer, and not Firefox or
Netscape.

A check right now as to whether or not the website can be accessed reveals
that within IE there is an activex control required. Firefox just shows the
site as unavailable.
