Not sure what this means but under the Versions Used on File section i have
the following

V6 0U R1 24 06 99
V6 0U R15 27 02 02
UR 27 02 02

The only update found on the UK site are the new updates for the 2008
program.

Any pointers greatly received.

I'm not sure what that UR 27 02 02 means. You might post over on the UK
community forum to see if anyone has the required update file. You may end
up having to upgrade your program to a newer version.

I don't suppose you did a general disk backup sometime, either, from
which you could recover the Intuit subdirectory tree?

It doesn't help from this point but I'd note for future if something
like this worked at one time and then begins an error, it's more than
likely either a data problem or something in the OS updates or another
added application that has updated/overwritten a shared DLL. It is
almost never a good idea to do the "revert to CD" as a first attempt to
fix the problem for any application, particularly those that do
automagic background updates.

it is not going to help in this situation, but it now seems like a
good idea to backup the entire Intuit directory regularly instead of
just the company file(s)---although I am not sure if or how the files
in there would help as the Application needs to be brought up to date
first.

I regularly see similar problems when one moves to a new computer and
needs to migrate QBooks to it--updated data files and the original CD
just have issues. Kinda speaks to the benefits of not using Auto
Updates--similar to some of the Windows Updates.

Sometimes the QBooks support data base can help. Other times not.
IMHO, the Intuit Install/Reinstall/Update process leaves something to
be desired.

All that should be needed is to Install using the original CD, tehn
apply the updates one by one until the level at which the data is at
is reached. Then all should be OK. However this is not a 'for sure'.
The more backups the better--daily only will put you back one day and
hopefully back in business.

On this point I agree wholeheartedly -- I dislike the auto-update
"feature" immensely for precisely this reason--there's no local
backup/recourse.

What one would have to do would be to investigate where all required
files are installed -- if Intuit is as lax in this as some of their
other programming practices, they might even be updating or adding stuff
into what should be system-only areas. This is somewhat mitigated by
later OS restrictions on write permissions, thankfully, but I'd not be
certain w/o a test.

And, of course, there's the issue of modifications to the registry
entries and so on...

That's a desirable "should" for sure, but as this thread shows, it ain't
possible w/ much of Intuit's past practices, particularly for anything
that has been sunsetted.
