I have seen posted elsewhere that it is possible to use the original CD to
reinstall the program even when software updates are not available. The
trick is to make a copy of the original QB folder, install the software to a
new folder and then replace the newly installed files with the old files.
The theory here is that the new install process updates the registry to
point to the new location and replacing the files brings them up to date.

BTW, you don't need to apply the updates one at a time. Intuit updates are
usually cumulative so installing the latest update should be all you need to
do.

It's a good theory, whether it will work reliably in practice is
somewhat more problematical I suspect.

If the idea is to fix a problem in an existing installation which was
Leon's intent, it would be almost certain to bring it along this way as
it isn't a refresh of the installation.

For fresh install to a new machine of a functional installation it might
make the process simpler than an attempt to manually use backup/restore
software I'd agree.

The operative words there again would be "usually" and "should"... :)

Sadly, nope, you're not...unfortunately, I'm afraid Leon is hosed unless
he can find somebody who can point him to a set of updates or a recovery
service or the upgrade would hopefully work.
