my computer crashed (thanks Bill Gates, for the "update"), and I reinstalled
QB 2000 Pro, and the patch I saved from when I first installed it. The patch
does not install, and the reve remains at R1P. So, it will not restore my
backup file, saying it is from a newer version of QB.

any help? I don't need or want any newer QB features or support. I just
want to use what I paid for.

thanks.

Try downloading and installing the patch again:
http://www.quickbooks.com/support/archive/index/ndxw_8_updates2.html

Pay attention to the note about the patch file name.
If it still doesn't work, provide some details of the error
messages. Also be sure the patch installer displays the
correct folder location of your QB 2000 install.

thanks. that patch installed fine. Now my version is R8P.

But, I still get the message that the backup file is from a newer version of
QB. That cannot possibly be true.

next idea?

thanks!

Right-click on your .QBW data file and select "Properties"
from the context menu. There should be a tab page on the
properties dialog named "QuickBooks" which will have a
value for "Last Opened With". What is the value?
