Well -- no.
When you choose the option "Custom Install" in Quicken 2005 it
immediately goes to a screen that says that the system has detected an
older version and is going to uninstall that older version. Thus --
my original question.

Some time back someone indicated that the way to do this is to install the
later version FIRST (in OP's case 2005), THEN install the earlier version
(in OPs case 98).

Hope that works for you. (It did for me).
