I use Quicken Deluxe 2006 and have the official guide. I tried backing up my
data file to a CD as explained on page 434. But Quicken can't open the file
because it is "read only". Is there any way of changing that attribute or of
making a backup that to CD that Quicken can read?

You can:
a) use the CD to RESTORE (via Q's restore function), or
b) you can COPY the contents of the CD to your harddrive and read from
there.

You can't use Quicken to directly open the files on the CD because
Quicken, inherently, opens the files for both input and output ... and
Q doesn't have the capability to write to the CD directly.
