This is a follow-on post related to the continuing problems with Intuit
Canada's "Investment Update Service" (accessed via One Step Update in
Quicken). The mechanism has been "out of service" for 5 days now...

For your information, I received this reponse from Intuit today (Feb 13,
2007 at 17:11 MST):

---begin---
Thank you for contacting Intuit Canada!

Intuit Canada is aware that we are experiencing server access issues for our
investment update service. We are currently working at resolving this issue
and hope to have a resolution in the near future.
We appreciate your patience while we are working at resolving this issue.

---end---

While the problem is ongoing, I was hoping to gather some information about
how the different Quicken versions deal with this "server-side" issue. I am
looking for feedback from users of the following Canadian Quicken versions:

Quicken 2002

Quicken XG 2003

[Quicken XG 2004 - only if your experience differs from mine, as described
below]

Quicken XG 2005

Quicken XG 2006

Quicken XG 2007

I am using Quicken XG 2004 and this is what happens when I try to download
quotes:

1. The download process stops at 98%.

2. Quicken becomes totally non-responsive.

3. When I bring up Windows Task Manager and switch to the Processes tab, I
find that the QW.EXE image is consuming 46% of the CPU on my dual-processor
system.

4. I have to do an End Task (via Windows Task Manager) on QW.EXE image
(Processes tab) or the "Quicken XG 2004" task (Applications tab) in order to
unload the program / get the CPU to go back down to the usual 1-2% CPU
utilization (when the system is not being used).

I have a friend who is also using Quicken XG 2004 on a single-CPU system.
He has the exact same symptoms except that his CPU utilization goes up to
96-98% (consumed by the QW.EXE image).

I am interested in particular if any of the Quicken versions listed above
are able to "gracefully" detect that the server is not responding and do
what is called a "time out". That is, the Quicken program determines that
the quotes are not forthcoming and gives up, rather than going into an
infinite loop.

I really hope you guys will come through on this request. I would
consolidate the information and reply here with the results. I hope to
present it also to management of Intuit's Technical Support department and
possibly effect some positive change...

Thank you.

PS

To bring up Windows Task Manager, press <CTRL>+<ALT>+<DEL> (simultaneously).

Hi - I am using Quicken XG 2007 - It does give up gracefully once it
realizes that it can't get the Mutual Fund quotes.

--RANT ON-
I tried Tech Support last night and they suggested that I uninstall /
reinstall - Amazing that they did not mention that the service is
down. I remember something like this happening last year or the year
before when they started "turning off" downloads for older versions -
they turned everyone off. This pisses me off since I buy the new
version every year and still end up with issues. I did try MS Money
for a year but it's just not as good / accurate (Investments are taken
to 2 decimal points not 4 or were at the time).

Moreover, I use the Canadian version (As I am Canadian) but can't
change the home currency to Euro - Since I am now living in Europe I
would like this feature.

If an alternative to Quicken exists I would change.
-RANT OFF-

Thanks,
Glenn

My experience with Quicken XG 2003 is the same as yours. (See my
earlier post in this forum).
I also have contacted Quicken support and received the same response
from them.

I just got off the phone with Quicken support. The CSR confirmed that
all versions of Quicken no matter what year are being affected (ie
unable to download quotes) Also he said that the problem might be
fixed within the next few days but most certainly by next week!
He could not explain why the problem occurred but I have been having
problems with quotes download loccking up for at least a couple of
months but the download always worked after I exited Quicken using
Task Manager restarted Quicken and tried the download again.

I have Quicken XG and it does not hang up when trying to download from
the server. It seems to recognize the server isn't providing data,
but the screen closes so quickly, I can't read what it is saying.
