I've been using Q'05 H&B, and it seems its about time to upgrade so I
don't run into Intuit's sunset policy.

John B. wrote in a recent post he bought Q'08 H&B on ebay for ~
$20'ish. I see that there are many sellers at roughly that price,
most of whom are offering digital delivery only.

Although I was a frequent eBay buyer and seller for many years, I
stopped earlier this year after several fraudulent transactions, and
after my account was high-jacked by someone who used it to sell non-
existent golf clubs. And so I'm a little gunshy.

Anybody have any experience with these fellows selling Quicken for
download only? Are they for real? And where does their inventory
come from?

Thanks

My understanding from Intuit is that there are no legitimate
"download only" copies of Quicken "for sale" (except from
Intuit).

I have purchased several copies of Quicken at eBay, but always a
CD, always unused/never registered. Always from sellers with
very high numbers of sales and very high satisfaction rating.
Never had a problem (and I registered all those purchases). I
would purchase that way again if I had the need.

just a couple of weeks ago I purchased Q2008 Dlx CD to replace my soon-
to-be-sunset Q2005.
I got it on eBay, with no problems whatsoever. Install was quick,
easily converted my old files.
Already registered it. Runs fine.

How much did you pay? Because I'm thinking if it's a lot less than a
normal discount price, it's probably bootleg, and you might as well
just steal it with a p2p or torrent.

One thing kids like is to be tricked. For instance, I was going
to take my little nephew to Disneyland, but instead I drove him
to an old burned-out warehouse. "Oh, no," I said, "Disneyland
burned down." He cried and cried, but I think that deep down he
thought it was a pretty good joke. I started to drive over to the
real Disneyland, but it was getting pretty late.

I'm the "John B." who mentioned buying '08H&B on eBay for a little over $20.
I agree with John P. that I would NOT buy a download-only version of Quicken
on eBay. I have always bought a CD version and always from sellers with
very high positive feedback ratings. My recent $20+ purchase was a bit
lucky -- most other sales were for quite a bit over that amount, but I was
patient and watched lots of auctions, waiting for the right one. (I find
eBay to be lots of fun.)

Having said all of that, I will confess that a few years ago I bought
Quicken on eBay from a seller with only a few feedbacks, though positive.
The price looked too good to be true, and it turned out to be bootleg. I
discovered this when I examined the disk contents and found three or four
movie files that didn't look like Quicken file names. They turned out to be
porn movies!! It was good for a laugh, didn't cost me much, and the seller
was off of eBay before you could spell the word "fraudulent." (Footnote:
Quicken installed just fine from the disk!) All other eBay Quicken
purchases have been completely legitimate as far as I could tell, and all
registered without any problems.

Bottom line, I suppose, is that for piece of mind you might want to buy
Quicken at Office Depot or the like. For a "deal," and the sport of it,
eBay has worked well for me.
