Just installed 2007 over 2004 and went very smooth. All data
converted, etc. However, I want to change the sound when opening up
the register. In Sound properties there is no listing for Quicken.
Even looked in the ini file, but found nothing. How do I create a new
scheme for Quicken in Sound and Media through control panel?

Click mouse (lower left corner), on start: get
menu , then click Settings, then control panel.
When menu opens, click "sounds and audio devices.
you will get a menu, click on the "Sounds" tab.
Now you get a menu -- scroll down "Program
Events", to the quicken directory: under this ,
marked with speakers are most of your sounds in
quicken- you can test them with the right arrow
on that line. IF YOU KNOW WHERE your sound wav
files are located, you can search for them with
the "Browse" button - when you find it, double
click on that file. then use the arrow button
again to test the new configuration. There are
some sounds in the quicken directory, and you
can search for others, useing the "Search" command.
when in THAT menu, use *.WAV as what to search
for (The * , or upper case 6, is a "Wildcard",
searching for every example of a .wav file in your
computer (tho , make sure it is searching in
MY COMPUTER, as the default for this search
command is in the "Start Menu")!
Give it a try! Jim

To get to the "Search" command, drag mouse to
lower left corner, then click the start button
with your RIGHT mouse button, then go to "search"
then left click it! hope that helps-- Jim

Hi, Jim.

Correct. Except...

OFTEN, after installation of Quicken, this menu does not include a listing
for Quicken at all! This has been an ongoing problem for several years now,
ever since Windows 2000 introduced new security features, as I recall. As a
one-man, one-computer kind of guy, I've never had to learn much about User
Accounts and permissions and such, so I don't fully understand how to avoid
the problem. But somewhere in the process of Installing Quicken as an
Administrator or as a normal Power User, the Quicken Sounds settings don't
get written properly into the .DEFAULT part of the Registry. Thus, there
are no sounds in Quicken. And when the user navigates to the Sounds menu -
as you quite properly instructed - there is only a blank wall where Quicken
should be.

See my Reply to the OP for some details - and a fix.

Just musing.

Intuit has long said that Quicken should only be installed by
*the* administrator; I wonder how many of the folks having the
sound problem installed Quicken as a user with administrative
rights, instead of *the* administrator?
