Where does Q 2008 store it's data by default?

IMPORTANT: Is there any type virus going around that destroys Quicken data
(and exe files. I'm missing some.

WHAT IS THE NAME OF THE EXE FILE TO START Q 2008?

Thanks... Bob

Hi, Bob.

I don't know. More than a decade ago, I started installing Quicken into
E:QuickenW; must have been when Quicken first produced the Windows version.
Even after Windows (95?) introduced the Program Files folder, I continued to
put successive versions of Quicken into E:QuickenW. In the olden days,
Quicken put its data files into the same folder as the program files - and
that's where MY Quicken data still is. Yes, I know that it's now generally
agreed that data files should be separate from the executables, and Vista
enforces that separation by disallowing writes within the Program Files
folder tree (unless we invoke THE Administrator status and insist). But my
habit hasn't changed and my data files are still in E:QuickenW, with the
automatic backups in E:QuickenWBACKUP.

To answer your question, we probably will need to know whether you are using
Vista or WinXP or some other Windows version - which you didn't mention.

I'm not aware of any such virus. To give you any intelligent help, we'll
need to know a few details about your missing files.

QW.exe. I don't think this has changed since the original Quicken for
Windows in the early 1990s.

You're welcome.

The default location is the Quicken folder, somewhere in the Programs
folder. Use the Windows search function and ask for *.QDF . That should
find it. I always put the data file in the My Documents folder so it is
backed up with the rest of my files.

Qw.exe is the program file

Data sets include anything named *.qdf

Most often, double clicking on the qdf file will start up Quicken with that
data set (qdf and multple other files with the same name but different
extension)

You should be able to searcg for "*.qdf" and select the file that is most
recent. Note the (possibly very convoluted) path
