I have added most, (I use the default payroll and investment
categories), of the categories I use. Even though I've been a Quicken
user for many years, and upgrade annually, I've never gone in an deleted
all those categories that are part of the program.

My question is, is there any reason I would not want to go in and delete
all those default categories that I have never used? I want to make
sure I don't break something.

Thanks.

You can not delete the categories that begin with the underscore; e.g.,
'_IntInc' - these are 'harwired' so-to-speak.

You can delete the others [nothing breaks] and in recent versions of QW
you can add them back using the little button at the bottom of the
category list.

Be careful here in case you delete one or more that you have used. Make
a good backup(s) before launching this exercise. Have shot myself in
the foot more than once tinkering with re-catecorizing or deleting
categories that I thought were not used :<(.
