When I download my Chevy Chase transactions and if there are checks that
have cleared the are received with the check number in the Payee field. This
is what be entered into the register. This is not very helpful to have a
register with no payees names just the check number. In order to find out
who the payee is I have to go to the bank web site and look at the check.
Seems like a lot of work when in the past all I did was enter it manually
into the register when I wrote the check Any ideas on how to simplify the
process?

1. Write the check
2. Enter it in Quicken with correct payee and amount
3. Download your bank transactions
4. When they match click on accept transaction (the payee you typed in
won't change)

Question: Are you saying you never record (either on paper or quicken)
who you write checks to. You just go online and look at the image to
figure out who you wrote the check to?

I know of no bank on the planet that would download who the payee is.
To do so would require the worlds most sophisticated hand writing
recognition program.

Don,
Thanks for the reply. Your procedure is what I'm currently doing. My
question is why download when I have already entered the transaction
manually in quicken. I do record the check as I write it in my paper
checkbook. I just thought that the download would save me the effort of
typing it in manually as it does with all other transactions. from

I never enter a check manually in Quicken. When I'm ready to
reconcile my statement, I download the checks and need to fill in only
--> the payee field and date the check was written <--.
This ensures that the check number and amount were recorded properly
by the bank, and will reconcile with the statement (that also came
from the bank).

SunTrust does the same thing....ch # only. I just have to cross reference
the number to the payee by hand.
