Quicken still has extremely old problems it refuses to fix, more
intent on hanging on new spangles so you will buy the new version.
Here are two nuisances they could fix with little trouble:

When I enter a check or deposit number, occasionally I get:
Duplicate number, OK? Sometimes it's yes, sometimes no.

Why can't Intuit change the OK to "Want to see it?" so you can make
the judgement. Deposit and check numbers inevitably cross.

At least 10 years ago, a Quicken guy would visit our computer club,
asking for improvements. This duplicate problem I brought to their
attention then, and I re-post now, but I have never seen them fix any
of the old faults.
The other nuisance is the way they stack categories, Income atop
Expense. When you write a check and enter a few letters of the
category for a check, it blindly searches top-down, first in the
INCOME group and often finds the wrong match. What ever happened to
artificial intelligence? Check implies expense!

Quite right. I really don't understand why Intuit doesn't fix existing
problems rather than producing new worthless "features".

Easy answer, new "worthless" features are what sell the product, if
they didn't add features they'd be posting a message like this one:

"Microsoft posted a statement in a news group saying that there will be
no Microsoft Money 2009 (aka Money Plus 2009), and Microsoft will no
longer be releasing a new version of Money every year. The reason for
this is because although "Microsoft Money Plus continues to be a
valuable tool for our customers...the feedback we are hearing is that
the incremental updates to the software don't merit a new product every
year."

I don't think Intuit has the financial resources to coast for a year or
more, Microsoft does.

Guess which one sells more copies:

"We fixed 10 things that were borked in last year's version!"

or

"Now with 10 new features you can't live without!"

Concerning comments on categories, checking implies expense, but deposits,
in the same register, denote income. And, yes, people write more checks than
make deposits. Still...
