I would appreciate suggestions on getting historic stock and mutual
fund data - I often find I want to get weekly or maybe monthly closing
prices for periods in the range of 10 years. Also use daily closing
data for various periods up to a year or maybe two.

I want this data in a format that can be easily imported into Excel -

For years I did this in MSN Money, but since I got a Vista Machine I
can't import into Excel and Microsoft's suggestions have not helped.

Can you clarify a couple of things?

1.) Are you looking for prices that you do not have in your
Quicken price history?

2.) A couple of your statements appear to be contradictory. You
say, "I want this data in a format that can be easily imported
into Excel", then you say, "since I got a Vista Machine I can't
import into Excel ...". I don't understand why you can't import
into Excel, but if you can't, it would seem your wish can't be
fullfilled.

John thanks for the reply -- now here are comments on what you wrote

#1 Yes I want information on stocks I don't have in my Quicken -- in
fact that is virtually all I want. I use the data for research prior
to buying.

#2 MSN Money's portfolio function has a default and a "Deluxe"
toolbox. Both give stock prices. With the Deluxe version you can get
graphs of historic price data.

Here is a link to the process

This worked fine on my XP machine, but not on my Dell Vista machine
for some unknown reason.

It is a replacement for this that I want.

Any suggestions apprecaiated.

you can download historical stock quotes from Yahoo that can be
imported into Excel. On some web sites, if you IE and not Firefox,
you can get the option to Export directly into Excel.

You can also find on Microsoft's web sites Add Ons that allow you to
download directly from MSN into Excel, using the Excel Add ons.

just do a Google search for:

excel stock quote add-in

Thanks a lot -- Additionally, I have just discovered I can do what I
want when I boot in the SAFE MODE - so now I will start hunting down
the conflict.
