I have an Ameritrade account with a linked cash account. About 2 years ago
I began downloading transations into the account. This made cash
transactions become dual entry with money market shares purchased for every
cash transaction. The end result is that I cannot understand or balance my
accounts properly any more. I stopped using downloaded transactions a
couple of months ago but kept the Ameritrade-Ameritrade Cash account setup.
I am contemplating the best thing to do from this point forward. I will not
use downloaded transactions, only manual entries (I don't have many).

What happens if I just delete the transactions from the cash account that
removed money to purchase shares of the money market account?

I had a similar problem with my Wachovia account. I don't have a linked
cash account, but almost all of the transactions were for buying and
selling money market shares, as it happened with every other transaction.

I went through and deleted all money market shares. Now, when I download
transactions, I delete those, and when I'm done, it offers to create a
place holder for the mismatch. I check to see that it is close to my
cash balance, and refuse the place holder. It adds a few extra button
pushes, but works well. I can now look at the register and see what is
going on, without all the extra transactions.

Thanks. I think I will try that.
