Help! Trying to add a new ACCOUNT for downloading, but hit a screen limit!Q Andrew 07-17-2006

Problem - I have about 12 accounts at a FI. About 3 of them I've enabled
for downloading to Q direct. No problem. Just created a new savings
account at this FI. Wish to add that one too. Also have about 6 others at
this same FI under my customer ID I do NOT wish for Q to be able to
download.

When I go into CREATE AN ACCOUNT and have it search for them under the
existing FI name, I get a list of about 6 accounts to associate it with,
none of which are the one at my FI that I want. So I use the 'Don't track
this account' on some of these.

I get the message ""If you have additional online accounts (not displayed
here), repeat Quicken account setup until all your accounts have been added
to Quicken". Exactly what I want!

But when I reenter account setup, same set of accounts is shown?

Does anyone know how to get to the 'second screen' of accounts at this FI
per chance?

If I manually create it, THEN try to enable online access, only 4 accounts
are shown as candidates, NONE of which are the the right one, and there's
nothing about getting the 'next' batch of candidates.

Seems like Q has some hardcoded values and doesn't really handle MANY (7 or
more) accounts at more than one FI well ?

(for the recordm I use many accounts, one for my checking, one for wife's
saving, one for my savings, this new savings account I just created, and a
slew of CDs that I don't track, plus some of my kids accounts that I am on
that I also don't track in MY Quicken file set. That's why I have so
many.....)

Anyone have ideas, or am I stuck at not being able to download this newest
savings account?

It sounds like Quicken might not have a way to tell itself that
it has already processed an online account but should not
download it; chances are the process would work if you wanted to
download all the accounts, so each online account would get
assigned to a Quicken account and Quicken would know to exclude
it from the second attempt to Activate accounts.

Why not try assuming that is the case: let Quicken create a new
dummy account for the online accounts you don't want to download
so hopefully the second attempt will show you unprocessed online
accounts. After you have all the accounts Activated that you
want to download ... delete the new Quicken dummy accounts you
don't want.

Thanks John. That was a great idea - but it didn't work....but I commend
you for that thinking - seemed good to me when I read it!
Comng back to the selection menu still ended up with the same set of
accounts, including all those I had just made 'dummy' accounts for that I
was going to delete if your idea worked.

BUT - I did find out how to do it, but in a roundabout way. At least, so
far, so good. Here's how - this might not work for everyone, since the fix
was outside of Quicken and might not be able to be done by others if they
have this same problem....

In my FI's **webpage** (when viewing accounts online with their web-based
session), when viewing a particular account, there is a DOWNLOAD button, and
you get to select what type of download you want (Microsoft OFX, Comma
Delimited, QIF, etc.) ; there's even a Quicken OFX (!). So I used that
while viewing this new account I wanted to establish (that only had my
single $5 initial 'seed' deposit in it that I made Saturday), and lo and
behold, it asked me what account in Quicken to associated this with (I had
Quicken open in another window); selecting the new account that I had
created worked, and upon a subsequent direct download, seems to be ok, and
in the list after I view it via ONLINE SUMMARY. It also is listed as
'ACTIVATED' in the ACCOUNTs list for online access.

(I was in a chat session with someone from Intuit for over an hour, still
not sure if she really understood what I was trying to do despite my quoting
her the error message from Quicken THREE times!)

To be clear....This might be misleading, It wasn't in the online access IE
session that I got asked, I believe the focus got switched into Quicken and
Quicken asked me which account to process the downloaded QFX.....

Bummer - I guess what this process all established was a 'Web Connect' , not
direct connect. Now have to go to the FI website first and manuallly select
the acccount and download. Doesn't automatically happen via the UPDATE
process using stored PIN VAULT passwords. Probably all clear to those that
have used Web Connect before, but this was my first time.

So in essence, I still have a problem with trying to establish the correct
account within Quicken to use it via Direct Connect. I'll try calling
Intuit again - maybe during daytime, I'll get someone who knows how this
works!
