How can I display a cash balance column in a brokerage account? BW 09-13-2008

I have a brokerage account in Quicken Basic 2006 for Ameritrade. The
transactions register for the account has no column for cash balance. In
the past I established a linked checking account but do not wish to continue
the dual entry accounting required. A family member running both Quicken
2005 and Quicken 2009 Deluxe says his brokerage accounts have a column for
cash balance. How can I get that column displayed in my Quicken?

Unlink the checking account from the investment account.

Click the "Edit Account Details" button on the Overview tab of
the account then click "No" for "Show cash in a checking
account".

Backup first in case you don't like the results (though I think
Quicken will force you to backup before it will make the
change).
