How can I move transactions up or down in the registry? Gary 04-14-2007

I use Quicken 2007 Home & Business. There are times, especially when
I'm trying to proof totals against the bank statement, when my
transactions wind up in the wrong order.

How can I move transactions up or down one or several lines? I don't
want to change the date, but multiple transactions with the same date
frequently need to be rearranged. Can anyone tell me if this is
possible to do?

Thanks in advance for your help!

The bank records transactions as they clear, while you may record them as
you write them. You can change the dates in the register to the bank's
dates, and add a note to the memo to record the date you wrote the items.
Generally this is not a real problem except around New Year's when you want
items to fall into the previous tax year, but the bank does not record it
that way. There are 2 ways around that: Don't let transactions
"straddle" New Year's, or keep the dates as you know them to be and live
with that.

Try using a fictitous number in the Num column. I frequently use singe
digit numbers and have to do a little fine tuning if there are check numbers
on the same date, but otherwise it works for me and seems to cause no other
problems.

Gary:

To move transactions up and down in Register view, first set view to:

View - Sort by Date / order Entered

Assume there were 4 transactions on 3/31/2007, originally entered in this
order:

D
C
B
A

Cut B, paste B, cut C, paste C, cut D, paste D, and you end up with:

A
B
C
D
