I have a few $5K savings bonds and wanted to add them to the investing
section of Quicken08 H&B. When I click to add new account, there is no
option for Savings Bonds. Tried help, but did not find it there either.
What am I missing, how do I add these?
Thanks in advance

Robert

Robert - From an old post by someone else (which I also happen to subscribe
to):

"I've never found Quicken that helpful. I just do a transfer monthly
to an asset account. Then I use the savings bond wizzard program from
the govt to keep track and just post an interest transaction quarterly. "

I continue to be at a loss why Quicken after all these years can't handle a
CD or a US Savings Bond in some really straight-forward manner via a Wizard
like the Paycheck. ie: Actually KNOWS what a bank CD or US Savings Bond is.
Probably my #1 gripe.

Thanks for the input. Not good news, but still an answer. Happy Holidays
all.

That was a feature that the old Managing Your Money program did very well 10+
years ago. All you did was enter each bond's CUSIP number and MYM kept the
values up to date.

Seems to me that Quicken used to do this, but they pulled the functionality a
number of years ago. Have no idea why.

I created an account called "US Savings Bonds". Then I set up each bond as
a separate security ("US Savings Bond" is one of the choices when creating
a security). My account register shows that I bought 1 share of "BOND E-
12345" on some date for $75. Then 1 share of BOND E-2222222 bought on some
date for $250, etc.

To track the value I use the Savings Bond Wizard, available for free from
the US Treasury.

Twice a year when SBW reports interest, I enter an Interest Income
transaction in Quicken.

And I agree. Quicken should be able to do this.
