How to expand drop-down list of categories? MaryL 01-30-2008

I am using Quicken Deluxe 2006. Can anyone explain how to expand the
drop-down list of categories to the full list I have set under
Tools>Category List? As it is, once I have entered a category with a
particular name, it is "remembered." For example, the category for one
person opens to Household:Repairs & Maintenance. However, I also paid this
person for another expense (also under Household -- which has additional
sub-categories), but when I start to type in "H," the only "Household" item
that will appear is for Repairs & Maintenance. I would like to be able to
see *all* of the sub-categories, just as they appear the first time I enter
a name and enter a category for that person or business. I do like
auto-complete when I start to type in a name, but I don't want to be limited
under categories to the category that was previously used.

Thanks,
MaryL

What happens if you memorize a transaction for that payee with a
blank category?

Count me in as one who'd like to see a keyboard shortcut (like the
Excel filte) to show the elements of a dropdown such as Categories.
That being: ALT+ Up Arrow.

I previously used a category for this payee, so it is memorized under his
name. If I next save a transaction for him with a blank category and then
go to his name again and open it -- the previously-established category is
the only one that opens when I try to select a category. I remember
previous versions that did not have this problem, and I surely hope there is
a way around this. Surely, those at Intuit know that different
people/companies sometimes need to be placed in different categories.

If you always want to choose the category at the time you enter
a transaction for a payee, don't memorize any transaction for
that payee (or only memorize a transaction with a blank
category).
