I need a psychiatrist over my Quicken 2006 Backups... Terri 05-21-2008

Quicken 2006 - I know my files should be in C:/D&S/Myname/Mydocs/Quicken but
they are all over the place...in many different folders and I want them to
be in ONE folder. Can I move these from the incorrect folder? And if so, do
I move ALL the files (there are two separate companies).
I am so mixed up and confused that I really need someone with some patience
to get me back on track - I have been working on this for several weeks and
am ready to have a breakdown over it.

You will have to consolidate the file sets somehow. It isn't logical to
have different file sets cover the same set of income, expenses, etc
(apart from backups). Yes you can move all Quicken data files to a
central location, as long as you also keep backups somewhere else (for
safekeeping, certainly if it involves companies).

Now, I wuld suggest that you make things easy on yourself and start using
the data sets via desktop or quicklaunch shortcuts, as follows:

For each of your data sets make a shortcut to its *.qdf file
(personal.qdf, company1.qdf, auntsusie.qdf, you get the picture).
Move these shortcuts to a central place, then rightclick them and assign
different icons to them.

When you are all set, burn a DVD with the files and their backups. Then
keep daily, weekly, monthly, yearly backups in a safe place.

Just my opinion

I followed your instructions and made 2 separate shortcuts HOWEVER, when I
open them, they both are the same. And I did use the correct qdf for each
one....
Now - what do you suggest?
