Help! QP '07 went unstable on me. I uninstalled, shut down, booted
up, and tried to reinstall. I got a message saying the re-install
failed due to "Error Code" 1603. Anyone know what Error Code 1603 is,
and what, if anything, I can do about it? Thanks!

1603 has to do with trying to re-install from a CD when the old install and
associated file and programs are not completely erased

Please log in for more thread options Hi, Bill.
During the long Vista beta, I had to reinstall Quicken Basic (first 2005,
later 2006 and finally 2007) nearly two dozen times, always to the same
location, E:QuickenW. At first, I had numerous such re-install problems; I
don't recall the error codes exactly, but 1603 sounds familiar. Finally, I
found the secret - but maybe it never was a secret at all. ;^}
To keep Q from thinking that an earlier version is in the way, simply delete
(or rename) qw.exe. Then start the install from scratch. When you get to
the end, instead of accepting the offer to "Run Quicken now", bail out of
the install at this point. Then navigate in Windows Explorer to the folder
where your QDATA.QDF file is and click on that file to start your new
Quicken with that data file loaded.
You will have a few minor transitional fixes to make, including updating to
the latest Release (currently R4 for Q2007). You'll want to check your
settings in Edit | Preferences. And you'll need to Register - AGAIN! If
you remember your Intuit username and password, this is painless. Or look
through the MANY messages here for how to bypass the registration nag.
