When I call up a report on investment transactions, restricting
it to a certain security, it seems the report is incorrect.
Simplifying, I show:
date action quote shares cash amt.inv. cash+inv.
5/16 bought 4.6 700 -3233 3233
5/17 bought 4.6 800 -3694 3694
5/25 bought 4 1000 -4015 4015
9/11 sold .5 -2500 10942 -10942
Realize gain -9720 0 -9720
Totals -9720 0 -9720
Quicken is telling me that when I buy shares I debit the cash
balance and credit the amount invested balance. Fine.
But the fourth entry, a sale, increases my cash balance by 10492
rather than 1250 (2500 shares X .50/share), and debits the amount
invested the same (incorrect) amount.
As I see it, I spent about 10942 buying the shares and got back
1250 selling, for a loss of 9692. So when you figure in
commissions, which I don't show here, Q has the final result
about right. But how it gets there I have no idea.
Thanks,
p.
