Is 2007 from 2006 worth the upgrade? Barbara L 10-23-2006

I don't use the Calendar function, *BUT* in my Q2007H&B, I can go to the
Calendar options, and "Select calendar accounts."

By default, all my cash and investment accounts are included.

None of my asset accounts are included, but I can choose to include them.

I keep all my credit cards under "Liabilities," and they're all included.

Interestingly, my mortgage is not automatically included, but once again, I
can choose to include it.

If you use the calendar function, be aware that there has been a loss of
functionality there.

There is the ability to show a running balance graph at the bottom of the
calendar window. One used to be able to show the sum balance of any
assortment of accounts. Now it is limited to cash accounts only.

I used to total up my credit card and cash accounts so I could see the real
running balance for my short-term accounts. However, I have not been able
to convince Quicken 2007 to include the credit card balances in that graph.

I don't know what other features have been removed going from Q2006 to
Q2007. I suspect there may be others.

My credit cards are under Cash Flow: Credit.

That category is not included in Q2007's calendar, but it was in Q2006.
Intuit has admitted they removed it intentionally, but no one can give a
reason why.

Go figure.

Thanks, though, for the tip about liability. I may move the credit cards
over to that category so that I can include them in the calendar.

In the meantime, I have become more suspicious about upgrading Quicken, now
that Intuit has told me they remove features for no reason at all.

oops, no can do. I'd have to delete and recreate the credit card account
to move it.

I'm now back to my original concern: Cash Flow - credit card does not show
up on the claendar graph, and it used to before I unknowingly downgraded
from Q2006 to Q2007.

I see. Well, let me suggest a work-around.

1) Create a dummy Cash account called Credit Card Balances.

2) For each one of your credit cards with a balance, create a transaction
for today called "Credit Card Balances," or whatever.

3) Pay the full amount of that credit card and choose your dummy Cash
account as the category.

4) Then you can choose to display that dummy Cash account, and have your
outstanding credit card debt as part of the Account Balance graph.

Bob

P.S. Or, if you don't need precise numbers, just create a post-dated draft
from your payment account for roughly the outstanding debt, and select "Show
Ending Balance in bar."

Wow, that seems like an amazingly complex way to recreate a feature that
Intuit removed from the 2006 -> 2007 "upgrade".

Computers are supposed to work for me, not vice versa.
