Is quicken 2008 worth the upgrade? Per Ting 09-13-2007

You must have an older system and/or OS. Intuit, as with many other
software vendors, assumes users are getting newer systems with tons of RAM,
hard drive space, processor speed (or speeds with dual/quad core chips),
video cards, etc... Quicken 2008 zips right along on my system, a newer one
about 3 months old. Maybe it's time to update your hardware?

The PC I am running it on is about a year old, dual core Athlon.
Still runs XP.
Maybe it is because it "only" has a Gig of RAM.

I ran an experiment comparing the 06 amd 08 verions (still running 06 on
another PC).
Ran both with the Task Manager running.
Quicken 08 starts up using 50 Megs of memory.
When I click thru the accounts it grows rapidly.
I have about 50 accounts - when I clicked thru all of them it hit over 600
Megs.

Did the same with 06 version.
Starts up using 28 Megs.
I opened EVERY one of my 50 accounts - only used 46 Megs of RAM.

Apparently the new version must suck in EVERY transaction when clicking on
the account.
I have probably 20 years of transactions.

I think I will stick with Quicken 06.

Time for more RAM, or a look at your configuration. Regardless, it's great
you have a version you're happy with.

It sounds like a memory leak. Did you try clicking through the
accounts a second time to see if Quicken continues to allocate memory?
That is, click on accounts 1 through 50 and then do it again without
closing Quicken.

Although I haven't "upgraded" I think you'll find that most people feel
the same as you.

Assuming that Intuit has $50 million in the bank and you have $500 in
the bank, Intuit now has approx. $50,000,070 and you have approx. $430,
It's not an "upgrade"; it's simply a transfer of cash. <g> After
all, it's your responsibility to keep the economy running smoothly! <bg>
