Win XP, Q 2007 Basic, for unknown reasons, all daily prices back through
the mists of time have disappeared, reasons unknown. More disturbing, I
had backups on three different drives, for several weeks in the recent
past - starting Q using several of the backups resulted in the same no
quotes results. Is there some way of turning the quotes off in Q that I
may have accidentally caused?

I should have added, I know Q cuts off the price import capability after
a couple of years, and I could download the appropriate information
from another source, but that doesn't explain the loss of all quotes
from my backup locations.

Your prices, and only your prices, are stored in the Windows file
QDATA.QPH where QDATA is the name of your Quicken data (and QDATA.QDF is
the name of your main Quicken data file).
If you lose thE QPH file, you will lose all your prices (Quicken will
create a new, empty .QPH file if the file is missing when you start
Quicken).
If you have a Quicken fileset that includes the QPH file, but it is only
1kb in size, chances are that is an empty price history file.
If the QPH file is larger than 1kb, it may be corrupted; I know of no
direct fix for corrupted QPH files, but there are a few indirect ways to
get most (sometimes, almost all) of the old prices back. You can post
back if you need assistance with that.

Thanks, I'll search through all of the backups, but, as the prices were
present as of yesterday, I'd expect the older backup files to be OK, but
they weren't when opened up via Q. - will report back tomorrow.

The few qph files I took a look at were around 1.04-5 MB in size(I hope
you meant MB rather than KB!). I did click on one random qph file from a
few days ago, expecting that XP would ask me what program to open it
with, but Q opened, and the prices were back! I have no idea as to
what's been going on with Q - it seems to work in strange and mysterious
ways.
As to your offer above, I would appreciate your sending to me indirect
ways I can some or all of the old prices back, for future reference,
thanks again,
