How easy is it to make the switch to quicken? I don't think MS Money
is going to be made again. I've seem Quicken has a program that will
convert .MNY files to Quicken format. How has that worked for
everyone?

Thank you

Tony

If you Google for Money conversion to Quicken you'll find several
methods, but they're really complicated--there's no conversion
program, or at least there wasn't when I did this a few months ago..
I only had about 2 years of Money and decided I could start Quicken
with 2008. It was really easier to re-download all the transactions
from bank, broker, and credit cards. You can also printout your money
register so you can pick up categories and other items you entered.
Sounds like a lot of work, but at least I understood what I was doing
and it didn't really take too long. I just did all the downloading
one evening, and then did all the miscellaneous catching up in another
session.

So it's easier to just start from scratch. Microsoft doesnt look like
it's going to make new versions of money anymore. Auto-downloads from
my 401k and everything else will expire soon, so I dont have much
choice. I dont want to have to do this all by hand.

Maybe open source is better?

This is the page that I followed last fall when I converted a client from
Money to Quicken:
http://financialsoft.about.com/od/quickenforbeginners/ss/Money2Quicken.htm

Just follow the directions carefully and make several backup files as you
proceed.

I can't give any good advice about the Quicken conversion from Money
application: I tried briefly to use it with a test Money file I had ...
but the conversion failed ... I forget the message.

If you want to convert, and the Quicken conversion application fails; you
can still use QIF export/import to get where you want. But it will not be
a simple process. If you are not willing to spend the time and effort to
overcome the limitations of the QIF export/import process, you might as
well stay where you are.
