It seems I get into a mess anytime I try to change things so I am asking
before doing anything.

I would like to move 2007 from my desktop to my laptop. I assume it is
just a matter of backing up the files, installing on the laptop and retore
the files onto the laptop. Am I missing anything? Am I about to get into
trouble?

Should be a non-tramatic event! Save your data file to more than one place
just to be extra cautious.

Hi, John.

As MikeG says, it should be no problem at all. Just remember that a Quicken
"file" is actually a set of related files. If you use the built-in Quicken
Backup and Restore tools, it will automatically handle the entire set. But
if you use Windows Explorer's Copy or other tools, you'll have to remember
to include the whole set. (By default: QDATA.*)

You probably knew that, but we never can be sure if somebody who doesn't
know it is "reading over our shoulders". ("Lurking" in a newsgroup is good.
We can learn a lot that way and avoid having to ask the same question
ourselves.)

I have Quicken 5 installed on my desktop and a laptop. I regularly
transfer the Quicken files (when I go on the road) between the machines
using a thumb drive. I have set up folder on each machine to
exclusively hold all of the working Quicken data files then use the
Quicken backup feature to backup to the thumb drive. The thumb drive is
also one of my backup drives for other applications. BTW I also second
network drive which is used as a backup drive for photos and such.
Since Quicken is my "mission critical" application (all of my financial
transactions are done using Quicken, paying bill, tracking investments etc)

I backup every day and make multiple backups, drives are cheap and
with the right backup software the backups function in the back ground.

Go for it Quicken license provide so for multiple installs (3 I think)
so it should be no problem.
