I use Quicken Win 2007 Deluxe and when I do my one step updates i always
get the result error page because waaaay back when my bank used to use
my SSN as my customer number, i guess the last time i tried that was an
error. now i have a new online account for the same bank with my made up
user name. but in one step update results and when i go to do one step
updates, that old account shows up there and i can't see where to get
rid of it.

If you haven't already done so, "Remove" the old account from
One Step Update using the "Change Online Services" button on the
Overview tab of the account.

If that doesn't help, you can try renaming QDATA.QEL (where
QDATA is the name of your Quicken data). Backup before trying
this as it will likely create other (hopefully temporary)
problems ... you may have to setup accounts for download again,
and you may get a one-time download of previously downloaded
transactions.

Thanks for the help. Well, what I see when I go to do the one-step
update is:

Commerce Bank - Central MA for <ssn here>
Commerce Bank - Central MA for <my new id here>

So if I remove it from the online services tab of Commerce Bank, I think
I'll lose the good one too. I also don't want to risk the other work
around and getting duplicate transactions. I've been down that rabbit
hole with Quicken before and don't want to have another *huge* mess like
that with cleaning up duplicates and trying to reconcile and all.

Guess I'll have to live with it, I wish they would take note and provide
some way to clean this up.

I used to see that with my BofA accounts; but each one was for
different Quicken accounts. I also see it for my two Chase
credit card accounts that have different user-id's/passwords.

I interpreted your original post as saying that you had created
a *new* Quicken account (a second Quicken account) for the new
user-id. If that was what you did, removing the old Quicken
account from online access should not affect the new Quicken
account.

[Actually, if I had thought about it, I probably should have
known that you couldn't have the same real-world account
activated for download to two different Quicken accounts. But
hindsight is 20/20.]

You could make a backup before doing this, to which you could
always return if the extra work was too much.

[Making a backup before doing any of the type of changes such as
discussed here is a good idea.]

I've changed passwords and user-id's quite a few times (Q2005
and Q2007); never had a problem. So I'm not sure what Intuit
would take note of; as I don't recall anyone else ever posting
with your situation.

If you can put together the details of what happened, by all
means post them at Intuit's Support site.
