Read back for the past 10 years or so and basically, it's always a toss
up with <fill in the blank> given the nod. More often or not, it comes
down to very little reason to switch and some reason to upgrade.

Hank Arnold

PC World always likes Quicken a bit more than Money too - and so do I.
I make a living reviewing financial software and writing Quicken and
Microsoft Money tutorials and I always find that Quicken to be a bit
more robust in features than Money. I try to be objective when I write
reviews, but I am really tired of the advertising and other web content
that Money forces on the user as well as the minor quirks . I am going
to update my review of Money 07 to mention the ads as this is really
getting on my nerves.

I probably don't need to say that Money is not my choice for my own
personal finance software. ;-)

I was about to make the switch to Money 2007 given the free trial from
MS, gave it a whirl.

It converted my files nicely and I was set into the Money menu systems.
I had much relearning to do.

Then a shock, I needed to register with the online Live ID, and there was
no way around it. This single un/pw was used to allow online
transactions, and although I still used individual account access, this
un/pw tied all my accounts together.

In Quicken, using Quicken.com is optional and can have nothing to do with
online transactions. Each account goes through the net individually, not
through a 'single style' service. I do not know if this is a proxy of a
sort, but didn't care to further investigate. MS restates that privacy
is a vital concern, so not to worry.

Further, Money is tightly integrated with the Internet, so it needs to go
out now and then to do something, why I know not, for example the help
files are online. I can track its requests with ZoneAlarm, whereas
Quicken is more client server based, and until you need to, does nothing
on the net without some notification its going to.

I got a hold of Quicken 2007 and found it far easier to use, and no
brainer upgrade. Its probably the best version of Quicken since the DOS
version in the late 1980s and seems to work nicely with the fewest
gotchas of all prior QUicken's I've used [ I've been with them since
1987].

Lastly, MS has a 2 year software update cycle versus 3 years with
Quicken.

Adios, Money.
