 A mutual acquantance suggested that you might be able to point me in some
direction.

Here's my problem:

In a nutshell, I've gotta be able to access Quicken 2000 Basic by Tuesday
or I'll be in a guessing game and writing checks by hand. When I fire up my
computer, I get a "Qwdlls has performed an illegal operation and will be
closed" type message, after which I can't open Quicken. My OS is Win98SE,
so it looks like I can't upgrade to QW2007 without upgrading my OS, too. If
so, to what? Will all my old programs still work? Oh, G-d!

Re-installing it didn't work as it was unable to remove the old copy. I'm
unable to remove it through windows as its Uninstaller there doesn't work
either, so it must be badly corrupted. I've thought of moving it to another
drive and then re-installing it from the CD, but knowing how these programs
shotgun files all over the place, I doubt that I would get everything.

Anything you can offer will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Look for the "Windows Installer CleanUp Utility" on Google with a search
on "msicuu". This MAY help you remove any remnants of QU 2000 so you can
re-install it again.

Hi, Nick.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, but it might be misplaced this time.
Arnie has suggested a solution that probably beats anything I could tell
you.

Heck, I haven't even booted either Win98 or Q2000 since about the year 2001,
when I finally got an updated BIOS that let Windows 2000 run properly on my
computer. And I was concerned enough about Y2K (remember THAT?) that I
started updating Quicken every year instead of every second or third year,
at least until we could clearly see 2000 in the rear view mirror.

While I haven't tried to load Q2007 on Win98, my guess is that it would
install and run fine. Millions of people are still running Win9x and I've
not heard any such complaints. Try uninstalling Q2000, as Arnie suggests,
then install it clean all over again. But be sure you have current backups
stored elsewhere so that you can reload your data when your reinstallation
is done.

Thanks, RC (& Arnie). Yes. I have all my data files backed up to a floppy.
I'll probably hafta do the delete in ZTree and try to cleanup in Regedit.

BTW RC The guy that touted me on to you is also a Microsoft Windows MVP.
