John P.,

Just curious... did the four versions of Quicken you bought on eBay all have
the Intuit hologram logo on them? http://www.intuit.com/authentic/

I just bought '08H&B on eBay and after reading your post looked at my disk.
No logo. There is nothing suspicious about the disk, and the program
installs and loads without apparent problems.

As I reported here before, a couple of years ago I did end up with a bootleg
disk from eBay. I discovered that when I noticed a few extra files on the
CD -- porn videos! Nothing like that on the current disk.

Two of the products I bought were for others and I do not have
the CD's for them. But I don't think they would have the
hologram because they were older versions; see below.

I have CD's for the other two and if there is any hologram on
them it is way too small for me to read. The two versions I
purchased on eBay and that I have CD's for are Q2002 and Q2004.

I think it's possible that the hologram only began appearing
later, maybe as late as Q2006 (which I have a CD for and which
has the hologram).

Have you tried registering your Q2008 eBay purchase?

Yes, I registered the '08 program without difficulty.

Per the Intuit site, they started the hologram program in July, 2005, so
it's no surprise that your two disks don't have the hologram.

I'm not sure if Quicken really has any way of checking for legal copies. A
friend of mine got a copy of quicken from a relative and was able to install
and register it without any problems. There is no serial number to enter
(unlike most other programs) so there is no way of Intuit checking to see if
your copy is legit.

You're allowed nowadays to put the program on 3 machines from 1 CD (at
least that's what I remember from my latest purchase of Q2008 US (Deluxe).
I installed on 2 machines and registered them at the intuit site (from
within Quicken). I have no idea what information was sent to intuit. I do
have an intuit.com ID or whatever, which I almost never use, certainly not
with financially useful data.
