I'm not happy that the totals for itemized categories are on top of
the details. Has anyone found a way to put the totals at the bottom
after their detail?

I have Quicken Basic 2006 and it does exactly the same confusing thing.

If I recall correctly, Quicken 2005 did not do this.

I am mystified as to why this approach was taken.
