Q04 to Q07 Transition and Vista Doug Hendrix 02-21-2007

I've been using Q04 on an older computer and recently got a new computer
that uses Windows Vista. The Quicken website informs me that Q04 isn't
tested on the Vista operation system and also tells me that online stock
updates for Q04 will terminate this spring (they get you every 3 years).
Anyway, I guess I'll upgrade to Q07 on the computer running Vista but I
wonder if I can just take the Q04 backup file and import it into Q07 or if
the Q04 data file will need to be translated to Q07? Seems like I remember
the translation thing from previous Q upgrades. If it needs to be
translated, how will I do that if Q04 won't run on Windows Vista? Anybody
done anything similar to this?

1)Backup the Q4 files using the built-in backup.

2) Install Q07 on the new computer

3) Copy/move the Q04 Backup files to the new computer

4) Open them with Q07. It will update & convert the files (also creates
a backup of the files).

Hank Arnold

Before you do that, please ALSO use the validate checkup from within your
old Quicken. There may be errors in your files that will f@ up your
files when used in a new install.

Now you should have 2 sets of files to try.
Others have also advised to run your reports on the old machine setup and
then try them on the new setup to diagnose any potential problems.
