Recently when I do an update on Quicken Premier 2009 for Windows it takes
out all network connectivity on my PC. Does anyone have any thoughts how to
keep Q from destroying the usability of my machine for minutes at a time?

I have no problem with Q08 on Vista Home Basic. Are you still running
WinMe? Some more data would be necessary to even start thinking about
what may be happening.
My guess is that something else is not set right. AV, firewall, or
something close to that.

I have never run WinME.

Any thoughts to point me in the right direction? This symptom only happens
when doing a Quicken Update.

The reference to WinMe was because the only thing you said was that you
have a problem with Q09. No other info about your system, or network
setup. How do you expect to get help?

AV, Firewall, network permissions, proxy, GKW.

Stop doing updates?

I can't help any more than this. With more info on setup maybe others
can help you.

From people that aren't snots about it.
Do you need to know the serial number on my CPU and my network card's MAC
address? Do you need to know my gender and age? Maybe the humidity outside
and the last time I ate? I have no flippin' clue what's relevant. I think
Q09 Prmr for Windows is a darn good start for a first post. Next time I'll
post my router's log file. Does that sound like a fair place to start for
Quicken related issues?
Obviously from your response you believe the issue is not related to Q09
Prmr for Windows, but I am just guessing, since it's impossible to know what
you are thining unless you post it.
