Yes you can. That's just what I would do.

Beginning with Q2006, the Quicken installation process wants no
other Quicken version installed, and will not install until you
uninstall older versions or allow the install process to
uninstall them for you.
The workaround is that once your earlier version is uninstalled,
and Q2006 installed, there is nothing stopping you from
reinstalling the older version.
[I believe there is also a way to prevent the Q2006 and Q2007
installation processes from requiring the uninstall of other
versions ... but I don't recall it at the moment. And it only
becomes critical if you want to have both Q2006 and Q2007
installed at the same time.]
There are occasional glitches when more than one version of
Quicken is installed, none usually serious. And there are less
of them with Q2006 since it (successfully) maintains separate
Preferences for every Quicken file.
