Hi, Bernie.

I'm only guessing here, because I haven't seen Q2008 on the shelf and
haven't even bothered to visit the Quicken website, but...

In the past couple of years, at least, the Basic version wasn't mentioned on
their promotional materials, but it WAS on the shelf at the retail stores.
Omission from their website was simply Intuit's attempt to trick us into
upgrading to the fancier versions. :^{

My GUESS is that good ol' Basic for Q2008 will be on the shelf at Best Buy,
Wal*Mart, etc., when we get ready to buy it.

And I hope that someone will post confirmation of that here as soon as they
know for sure. ;<)

Hi RC

Alas, it appears that Basic is no longer with us - per this link to
an Intuit site: http://tinyurl.com/y73too

The referenced articl starts out "As of August 2007, Intuit is no
longer offering new versions of Quicken Basic."

Hi, JM.

Thanks for the heads-up - and for that URL. I don't like it, but at least I
know.

I used Deluxe versions of Quicken and TurboTax for several years. But as I
became more and more retired and my finances became less complicated, I cut
back to Basic on both of them a few years ago, and they have worked very
well for me. But I had been thinking of trying a higher version for one
year, just to see what I've been missing - if anything. I guess Intuit is
making my decision for me.

It turns out, they are selling something called Quicken Starter
Edition (free after rebate at Circuit City this week, or $10 at
Best Buy). I assume it has the functions that Basic used to, but
they say it cannot import existing Quicken data, so you'd have
to start from scratch to use it! If you are a Quicken Basic user
who wants to keep their existing data, you have to upgrade to
Deluxe to go to a new version. Pretty sleazy if you ask me!

Hi, Bill.

I haven't seen Q08 on the shelves yet. The Starter Edition (or whatever
they're calling it this year) is not new. They've had that just about every
year. You are right: It is NOT the same as Basic.
