I have several accounts that are all activated for online use, with
account numbers. But I noticed one was missing from the
pin vault account list so went to add it, a Chase credit card
account. Even though I can login manually on the Chase web site, when
I enter the same login name and password to Quicken, and it tries,
it's rejected by Chase as invalid user ID or password.

Anybody else notice this or have a solution? Google turned up a
possible problem in Q2007 for Chase accounts, something about
passwords over 10 characters, so I shortened mine to 10 chars but the
problem continues.

Bob:

I have multiple Chase personal and business credit cards.
They all download without problems,
BUT, I noticed that ALL of my passwords are 8 or 9 characters.
Maybe you can try shortening to 8 or 9, and see if that works.

As a separate issue, someday I'm going to be motivated to change all my
passwords to the same one.
Chase forces me to change passwords after a certain number of months.
And I have to use 5 different passwords before I can re-use the original
one.
I've found that I just have to make 5 more changes on the web site in quick
succession to get back to the one I was forced to change ;-)

I did try that, and no-go.

So I took the advice of another poster and called their service
center. After getting passed around a bit--not too bad--I talked to a
Brian who said that initiating the download from a web browser is
free, but from Quicken they charge $9.95/month. I think this is
probably true, I have only a single credit card with them, and I read
Quicken charges FIs quite a bit to download directly. My own bank
(Wells Fargo) wants to charge me for a direct download and I have a
lot of accounts with them! On the other hand, I have a Citibank CC
and do get direct downloads. Go figger.

I recommend either PassPack (http://www.passpack.com/info/home/), an
online password generator/storage, or KeePass (http://keepass.info/),
a local password generator/storage free program. The latter can also
fit on a USB flash drive,
e.g. http://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/keepass_portable

I started using both a few months ago (PassPack as main/central
storage, periodically updating to local KeePass) because I couldn't
keep the passwords straight and didn't like having Firefox store them
on my work computer. Plus with the browser storing them I couldn't
access them when traveling. Yeah, I ended up using just a handful of
the same passwords which is bad. I really like both programs and now
all my passwords, even for forums, are auto-generated and all
different.

I have one Chase card also. I got it a few months ago when they offered
it with a good rebate package, and $50.00 when I used it. I download
directly into Quicken, and I don't pay anything for that privilege. I
seem to remember that I had to log on to their web page with my browser,
and follow a link to enable Quicken download.

I just went back to look, and from the account page after logging on,
there is a link to "Customer Center". From that page, there is a link to
enable Quicken and Money downloads.

Hope this helps.

Sure did! I had not studied that page in detail...when I clicked on
the Enable link, it said everything was ready. Then I had to
deactivate online access in Quicken and reactivate, and now it
works. Huh, imagine Chase trying to knick me for a monthly charge...

Now to try to get Wells Fargo to direct download for free too.
