I'm assuming you have access to the machine you remote desktop into -
I don't think remote desktop should have any effect, since you're just
looking at pictures of the desktop you're accessing. Are you able to
connect directly from the machine with Quicken on it? If not, then
it's not a remote desktop issue and it's an issue either with your
internet connection setup (with Quicken), or the financial institution
you're trying to connect to (less likely since you said you couldn't
access Quicken.com either.
I'm assuming you still have internet connectivity on the machine,
since you're able to remote desktop into it (unless it's on a LAN and
maybe the security settings are set to restrict access outside the
network).
