Q2008 H&B - Toolbar and Class Based Reports Broken Stewart Berman 12-09-2007

I upgraded Q2005 H&B to Q2008 H&B with the following results:

1. The custom toolbar is broken. Any reference that had an "&" in it
now has "&&" in its place in the label. (I assume it also has it in
the report it references because nothing happens when I click on the
icon. There isn't anyway to actually see what the icon references.)

2. Customized reports that use classes no longer work. First I get a
popup dialog saying that I have added items of the following type to
Quicken:
        - Tag
The choices are:
"View the report as I saved it"
                (This produces an empty report.)
"Go to the customize dialog so I can add these items"
(This displays the tags with nothing selected.)

IOW, Q2008 has wiped the class selections of all of my saved reports.
As I understand it tags are supposed to be an improved substitute for
classes. Unfortunately, Q2008 doesn't convert class selections to tag
selects so you have to recreate all of your class dependent reports.

I was mistaken about the tags not being set. The selected classes do
appear as selected tags. But none of the Profit and Loss reports
produce any results for recent years.

My Quicken file goes back over 10 years. If I run a Profit and Loss
report from the earliest date subtotaled by year I see a little
activity in some prior years but none in the last few. When I drill
into the items that show up they all have a check mark next to them
indicating they are attached to a line on a tax form. I have never
used Quicken for tax reporting and never bothered to attach items to a
tax schedule.

It appears that you can no longer simply select accounts, categories
and classes (tags) to determine what goes into a profit and loss
report. You have to map every item to a line on a tax form. Is there
any way to turn this "feature" off? I need to generate Profit and
Loss statements for my tax accountant for year-end and have neither
the time nor the desire to map everything to a tax form -- that is
what the tax accountant is for.

I posted this to Intuit and the response I got basically says they put
in a "feature" that breaks all prior business reporting.

In order to have a category included in a Profit and Loss report you
MUST give make it a business type. This means you cannot use the same
category (i.e. Utilities) for both Home (personal) and Business
transactions. You can only use it for one or the other.

I always thought that categories were types of things (i.e. Utilities)
and that Classes (now Tags) were the way to separate transactions by
area (i.e. Business, Personal, etc.). This no longer works.
