Quicken 2003 window no longer visible cweeks 02-05-2008

Just this week, after years of satisfactory use, I can no longer see
the Quicken Basic 2003 window when I start the application. I can see
qw.exe in the Windows XP Task Manager Processes tab but I do not see
Quicken in Applications tab. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling
several times. I think something related to window position and size
must be hanging around in the registry but I have not been able to
find anything.

I'm quite content with 2003 and have no desire to spend money on an
upgrade just to be able to continue using Quicken. Any ideas?

Is there a Quicken icon in the Windows taskbar?

No, I wish there was. I could probably make the window show up by
using the Move command from there. Weird. Annoying.

If it's just a positioning problem, try the following:

Right click the task bar. On the menu that pops up you should have the
option to Cascade windows. Any window that is off screen will be brought
onto the screen.

If this doesn't work, then something else is happening, such as a DLL not
loading, or other software blocking access to a necessary file.

When you start Quicken, do you go to the Start Menu->Programs? Is there a
Desktop shortcut that you use? Do you just double click your Quicken data
file (.QDF file)? Try starting differently than your normally do.

Try making a "dummy.qdf" (Right click the desktop->New->Text Document) file
on your desktop. What happens when you double click it? It should bring you
to the "Get Started with Quicken" wizard. Don't need to go through the
wizard - you just want to see if Quicken starts with a blank file.

I was hoping that would do it, but no joy. So, I've given up and
moved on to Quicken Deluxe 2008. It imported my 2003 files nicely and
I am back in business $30 later (after rebate).

I tried the shortcut, the .exe from a command prompt, dropping
the .QDF file on the shortcut. Nothing worked

I did not try this before surrendering but I don't think that would
have done it for me. But, stranger things have happened.
