Hi, David.

How about this for a coincidence? Just after reading your message, I was
catching up on some year-old posts here and found one by "Les" on 4/2/2006,
with the subject, "Error Message - Inconsistent on 2 different
Computers?????" Since you may not be a packrat like me and that post may
have scrolled out of your reach, I've copy'n'pasted the whole message:

<paste>
I use Quicken 2006. About 2 weeks ago, I got the following error message:

Portfolio accounts Internal data error: [No Cust Info] Loading for
Acct key: ---"

A couple of very knowledgeable people on this forum responded to my problem
and suggested that I validate and supervalidate the file, since the data
file might be corrupted. I did this and no errors were indicated. I
chatted with Intuit Tech support but they were no help.

Since then, I have taken a 2 week old backup, well before the error message
appeared, and loaded that data file onto my other computer ( I got a new
computer 3 months ago) which still had Quicken 2006 loaded on it. I did not
have this error message and I have done several downloads and there are no
error messages. I then copied this data file, validated and supervalidated
the copied file, and no errors were indicated. Then, I copied the copied
data file back onto my new computer and opened up Quicken. Then I did a
download, but still see the original error mesage on the new computer but
not on the older computer. It is the same data file and same quicken 2006
rel 6.

How can this be?????? Do you think that I should uninstall quicken 2006
from the new computer and install it again? By the way, I have another data
file which I use on the new computer and it has no error messages with it.

Would appreciate any help or suggestions. Other than the error message in
the OnLine Summary Report, everything else seems OK!!
<paste>

Sadly, there were no responses to Les' question. However, his year-old post
shows that it has nothing to do with Vista (as someone suggested), but is a
pre-existing problem that is most likely caused by something within Intuit.
Perhaps Les or the "very knowledgeable people" that he mentioned have by now
found a solution to the problem.

RC,

Thanks for digging up that post. That's good information to know. Since my
data files *seem* fine, I figured I'd mess with Quicken itself. So, I
uninstalled it and re-installed it. This time, when I ran the installation
executable, I ran it as Administrator and told it to put Quicken in a custom
directory (C:Quicken instead of C:Program FilesQuicken). From some of
the posts on Intuit's own "support" forum, it looks like keeping the program
out of the Program Files directory helps with Vista installations. I also
ran the latest program update (manually downloaded) as Administrator. My
data files are already in a non-default directory (DocumentsQuicken), so
permissions problems shouldn't be an issue. Unfortunately, I'm still
getting the error message. One good thing seems to have come of it, though:
Quicken no longer fails when I exit after doing a One Step Update.

Since no one else has chimed in saying they're getting the same error
(either in my case or in the one you found), I'll assume something has
happened in a data file and Quicken doesn't know what to do with it (even
though it Validates fine). I'll try some of my backups and see if that
helps. I'll also do some more Googling with the information you've
provided.

Thanks, again.

RC,

Following up on my previous reply to you, thanks to your input I was able to
fix the problem. I couldn't find any other information on the web about
this, so I double-checked an old backup. It updated fine without that error
message. I then re-loaded my original files and did updates in them. They,
now, both work fine. I have no idea what happened. But, I'm guessing that
something must have happened to one of those "data" files that Quicken uses
to download information (i.e., not the QFX file). Loading up an my old data
and whatever that associated file might be, and then doing an update, seems
to have fixed that file (must have knocked a stuck electron loose :) ).
Whatever it was, it's working now. Thanks.
