Several weeks ago I started to have problems downloading the latest data
from TIAA-CREF. I am using Quicken 2006. In the past I was able to open the
Quicken program and directly download the data from TIAA-CREF site, which
was then synchronized with register. However, couple of month ago, I started
to have problems connecting with TIAA-Cref site directly from Quicken. I did
find a work around though. I can go to the Quicken site by using internet
explorer, login to my account and then download data to Quicken, while
Quicken program is open. My question, is my connection file through Quicken
corrupted? Is there a fix? I have updated the Quicken software but that has
not solved the problem. Any assistance from this forum will be appreciated.

According to this page http://tinyurl.com/oqt5q
TIAA-CREF only offers Web Connect downloads into Quicken which is exactly
what you are currently doing.

IIRC, many banks changed how they handled downloads into QUicken when they
introduced the 2006 version last year. Some added the direct connect while
others removed it because Intuit raised their prices.
